-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Welcome to Issue 62 of The KellyGram!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We always appreciate hearing from our subscribers. Some time ago, one of them, a friend and neighbor named Louise Burke, suggested that we focus an issue of The KellyGram on women. With Valentines Day coming up, this seemed like an appropriate time to do so. Our thanks to Louise and, if you have a topic you'd like us to consider, we'd love to hear from you.

One of my goals this year is to increase the number of our subscribers. So, if you've found The KellyGram to be a helpful resource, Id be grateful if you'd send this issue along to your friends, family members and colleagues. If they'd like to subscribe its FREE all they have to do is send an email to bob@kellygram.com or use the form at http://www.wordcrafters.info/newsletters.html. Thanks so much and Happy Valentines Day!

FUN WITH WORDS

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The statements which follow were made by five women who, during the 20th century, achieved considerable fame for their stage and/or screen performances and, in most cases, for their off-screen antics as well. Their names are listed below.

Try matching the celebrity with the statement she made.

1. - Nothing makes a woman more beautiful than the belief that she is beautiful.

2. - If you want a thing well done, get a couple of old broads to do it.

3. - He taught me housekeeping; when I divorce I keep the house.

4. - I used to be Snow Whitebut I drifted.

5. - Sometimes I wonder if men and women really suit each other. Perhaps they should live next door and just visit now and then.

A - Bette Davis (1908-1989)

B - Zsa Zsa Gabor (1917-)

C - Katherine Hepburn (1907-2003)

D - Sophia Loren (1934-)

E - Mae West (1893-1980)

Youll find the correct answers elsewhere in this issue.

THE QUOTE CORNER (Women)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Were happy to dedicate this issue of The KellyGram to our many women readers. Were grateful to you for your support, and trust you will enjoy the selections which follow. While a few are in the "tongue-in-cheek" category, others echo our own sentiments in paying women the tribute they deserve.

The problem with life is, by the time you can read women like a book, your library card has expired.
    Milton Berle

Seize the moment. Remember all those women on the "Titanic" who waved off the dessert cart.
    Erma Bombeck

Next to God we are indebted to women, first for life itself, and then for making it worth having.
    Christian N. Bovée

Being a woman is a terribly difficult task, since it consists primarily in dealing with men.
    Joseph Conrad

Women are never stronger than when they arm themselves with their weaknesses.
    Marie du Deffand

Women have more imagination than men. They need it to tell us how wonderful we are.
    Arnold H. Glasow

Feminine intuition is a fiction and a fraud. It is nonsensical, illogical, emotional, ridiculousand practically foolproof.
    Harry Haenigsen

The woman was made of a rib out of the side of Adam; not out of his feet to be trampled upon by him, but out of his side to be equal with him, to be under his arm to be protected, and near his heart to be loved.
    Matthew Henry

A good and true woman is said to resemble a Cremona fiddleage but increases its worth and sweetens its tone.
    Oliver Wendell Holmes

The first home was made when a woman, cradling in her loving arms a baby, crooned a lullaby.
    Elbert Hubbard

There is in every true womans heart a spark of heavenly fire, which lies dormant in the broad daylight of prosperity, but which kindles up and blazes in the dark hour of adversity.
    Washington Irving

Woman was made from Adams side that she might walk beside him, not from his foot that he should step on her.
    Harold Lindsell

I have always felt that a woman has the right to treat the subject of her age with ambiguity until, perhaps, she passes into the realm of over ninety. Then it is better she be candid with herself and with the world.
    Helena Rubinstein

A woman with true charm is one who can make a youth feel mature, an old man youthful, and a middle-aged man completely sure of himself.
    Bob Talbert

Those people who have no trouble separating the men from the boys are called women.
    Howard Tamplin

WORDS WOMEN USE!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The following definitions are presented as a public service for the benefit of our male subscribers who may be unaware that certain words may take on different meanings when addressed to them by women:

FINE
This is the word women use to end an argument when theyre right and you need to shut up.

FIVE MINUTES
If shes getting dressed, this may be up to half an hour. Five minutes is only five minutes if youve just been given five more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.

NOTHING
This is the calm before the storm. This means "something," and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with "Nothing" usually end in "Fine."

GO AHEAD
This is a dare, not permission. Dont do it!

LOUD SIGH
This isnt actually a word, but a nonverbal statement often misunderstood by men. A "Loud Sigh" means she thinks youre an idiot, and wonders why shes wasting her time standing here and arguing with you over "Nothing."

THATS OKAY
This is one of the most dangerous statements a woman can make to a man. "Thats Okay" means she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when youll pay for your mistake.

THANKS
A woman is thanking you. Dont question it or faint. Just say "Youre welcome."

OUR NEW BOOK A PREVIEW!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In 2000, I had the honor and privilege of collaborating with world-famous motivational speaker Charlie "Tremendous" Jones on a book titled The Tremendous Power of Prayer. A year later, our book won a Silver Angel Award from Hollywood-based Excellence in Media.

This year, Charlie and I have joined forces again to produce Kids Are Tremendous, featuring several hundred observations about children and childhood by some of historys most famous personalities.

But Kids Are Tremendous is more than simply a collection of quotations. In raising six kids of their own, Charlie and his wife Gloria learned a lot about equipping them for the future. An avid reader himself, Charlie developed a unique and effective method for instilling in his children a love and appreciation for good literature.

In Kids Are Tremendous, he offers sound advice on how you can turn the young people in your life into lifelong readers. Weve even included a sample "contract" form you can use to get them moving in the right direction.

During his career, Charlie has given away millions of books, firmly convinced that: "You are the same today as youll be in five years, except for two things, the people you meet and the books you read."

Kids Are Tremendous is being published by Charlies company, Executive Books, and is scheduled for release within the next few weeks.

THE LAST WORD

"The people Im furious with are the womens liberationists. They keep getting up on soapboxes and proclaiming that women are brighter than men. Thats true, but it should be kept very quiet or it ruins the whole racket."
